We are a municipal institution that handles matters related to pre-school, general and professional (Arts, Music and Sports) oriented education, culture, youth, sports, as well as integration in society. One of the functions of the Department is to manage pre-school and primary education and to provide secondary education for all children residing within the administrative territory of the Riga City. The Department oversees 115 general education schools (incl. 88 secondary schools, 23 elementary schools and 4 primary schools) with 68 155 students, 82%, of these students master elementary education programs, but secondary education programs are mastered by 18%. Out-of-school and vocational education is provided by 115 comprehensive schools, 9 music and art schools, 11 sports schools and 13 Riga Municipality’s out-of-school education institutions which are attended by 84 068 students. The Department has 174 employees, Education Board has 9 education specialists - experts dealing with general education. The Department has 2 officers working with European projects and having significant experience with different EU programmes, including Erasmus+.

The University of Latvia (LU), with its 14,000 students, 13 faculties and more than 20 research institutes, is one of the largest comprehensive research universities in the Baltic States. UL is a renowned research university promoting excellence in studies. The University offers more than 130 state accredited academic and professional study programmes. UL pays great attention to the development of international collaboration and supports different schemes of mobility (148 bilateral agreements with universities around the world, more than 700 agreements with 368 institutions in 32 European countries within the ERASMUS+ programme). The Advisory Board of Education and Culture (CEC - Consejería de Educación y Cultura) is the institution responsible for the proposal and implementation of the policy of the Government of Asturias in education, vocational training and higher education for the whole region. The CEC is also responsible for the promotion of culture in its various manifestations, the development of language planning and standardization, protection and dissemination of historical heritage, museums and arts, promoting traditional festivals, libraries and archives. Finally, also it corresponds to this Council the proposal and implementation of government policy on sport. The Teachers Training
Centre of Oviedo

The Teachers Training Centre of Oviedo is a public administrative institution in charge of providing teacher training activities for schools and teachers under its geographical scope, in accordance with the programmes developed from the Advisory Board of Education.
The schools under its scope are currently 150, including different educational levels: from Infant Education to Baccalaureate through Vocational Training, Adult Education, Special Education and Specific Regime teachings (Languages, Artistic Studies). Due to the geographical area where the Teachers Training Center is situated, it works with urban and rural schools, with consequent differences in its characteristics.
Our main task is the development of the teacher training activities, the creation and dissemination of curricular materials and the support of different educational actions in all non-university levels. It promotes processes of innovation and the exchange of good practices and resources.
Besides this, The Teachers Training Centre supports teachers in the development of their projects and collaborates with several entities, such as the University of Oviedo, the City Hall of Oviedo, the Regional Health Ministry, etc. in actions related to teachers´ training and educational innovation and in the development of interinstitutional educational projects.
The technical-teaching team of the Teachers Training Center is integrated by the director and five advisors on different areas: 1 on the technical- scientific area, 1 on the Attention to Diversity area, 1 on Technologies of Information and Communication area (ICT), 1 on Infant and Primary education area and 1 on Sociolinguistics and bilingual programmes area. The rest of the team is formed by two administrative people, a concierge and a person who is in charge of the maintenance of the spaces and the building. All of them support the development of all the activities taking place at the Teachers´ Training Center.

St. Peter’s Lutheran School of Tartu

St Peter’s Lutheran School of Tartu, opened in 2013, is the successor to St Peter’s School, which functioned in Tartu from 1906 to 1944. St Peter’s School is a private Christian school, providing education from the nursery school level up to that of the lower secondary school. The majority of the members of NGO Tartu Luterlik Peetri Kool, managing the operation of the school, have professional background in pedagogics and a number of them have studied pedagogy of religion at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Tartu.
At St Peter’s School, Estonian culture and Christian upbringing have always been highly valued. Today’s St Peter’s School is a contemporary educational institution where the learning and teaching process go hand in hand. Our school stands for cultivating values by example and developing empathy in children. Every child receives individual attention due to small class size. We provide intensive classes in German as well as classes in media and communication studies, and religious education. To achieve set goals, we work closely with our students’ families, and a parent council actively supports the school. At our nursery school, Waldorf educational principles are applied in teaching Christian values.
St Peter’s School was one of the founding members of the Union of Estonian Christian Private Schools in 2014. The Union of Estonian Christian Private Schools is a member of the International Association for Christian Education (Internationaler Verband für Christliche Erziehung und Bildung).
St Peter´s school is a growing school, currently we have grades 1.-4. and 5 kindergarten groups. A total on 143 pupils are enrolled in the in the 2016/2017 academic year: 51 in school and 92 in kindergarten. School will continue to grow class by class, up to 9. grade. 43 people are working for St Peter´s school and kindergraten and there are 17 members of NGO Tartu Luterlik Peetri Kool.
Project has 2 schools as associated partners, one public school from Spain and one private school from Latvia. They were chosen because of the experience and commitment in the field of character education and their involvement in innovative teacher support practices.
The Riga Catholic Gymnasium (Rīgas Katoļu ģimnāzija) is a private educational institution with 38 teachers and around 150 students from 1st to 12 grade, whose mission is to provide a person-centred high-quality primary and secondary education, and to promote the development of students’ free, socially active and mentally mature personality, based in Christian values. The institution has designed and is currently implementing a character education module integrated into existing curricula, including elements such as Respect; Responsibility to others; Compassion; Humility; Integrity; Justice; Moral courage; Caring and Fairness. The main objective of the program is to promote school’s ethos, which is underpinned by core values that support the development of the whole child as reflective learner (to help students become smart and to help them become good). They are developing a Character Education Resource Manual and are involving many stakeholders in the development & implementation of the character education program. The program includes character education training for teachers & parents. They are also the organizers of an International conference on Character education in collaboration with the university of Latvia. In the frame of this Erasmus + project, they will present their experience in transversal competences and character education during the joint staff meeting in Riga (July 2018, see section G3_C2) and they will be associated as experts in the elaboration of the support program (see section G1_O2).
I.E.S. Alfonso II (Oviedo, Spain): With more than 150 years of history, I.E.S. Alfonso II is the oldest public high school in Asturias and one of the oldest in Spain. Among our alumni we can find outstanding intellectuals, artists, writers, politicians or scientists, queen Letizia of Spain has been one of our students. However, as a public school, we intend to achieve excellence for all our students, no matter their social or educational background, that’s why inclusion and social justice are keystones of our identity together with the academic excellence. Thus, we offer courses from the first year of compulsory secondary education (Educación secundaria obligatoria), Baccalaureate on its scientific, technologic and humanistic branches, and higher professional education in the branches of early childhood education and physical education (Formación profesional de grado superior). Also, we are a reference center in our region for inclusion of recent migrant students with our linguistic immersion program, and also offer an evening school program for adults who want to obtain their Baccalaureate. Noteworthy as well is our cooperation with the University of Oviedo, as several teachers are also lecturers at the Faculty of Education and our schools receives every year an important body of student-teachers who are close to finish their Master’s in education degree. Our educational community consists on a total of 1086 students and 90 teachers, who work together with a non-teaching staff of 15 people. The core group of the program will created with a small group of teachers (principal, guidance counselor, and at least two more teachers with strong leadership in the school and experience in this kind of projects) but all the teachers with an advisory role in the compulsory secondary grades will take part in the activities of the project. As mentioned above, the aim of our school is to provide all our students with the best education in an holistic sense, educating the youngest includes for us scientific knowledge as much as competences and character education, even our higher professional education programs are focused on education.
